Ha’penny Press – Our commitment to the Carbon Capture Programme!

Ha’penny press have been working in partnership with Premier Paper and the Woodland Trust for the past 2 years.

In 2013 we helped create new native woodland in Lincolnshire when 1,500 trees were planted at The Prince William of Gloucester Barracks in Grantham and in 2014 this effort was doubled with more than 3,000 trees being planted at Heartwood Forest in Hertfordshire.

Left to right: Sarah & Damon from Premier Paper, Anna from Ha'penny Press at the tree planting event in Lincolnshire.

So how does it work?
The Premier Paper Group offers customers and their clients the opportunity to capture the CO2 emissions from their paper purchases by planting native woodland, right here in the UK, through the Woodland Trust and the Woodland Carbon Scheme.

For every order placed, Premier Paper calculate the amount of CO2 generated in the production and delivery of the paper. This amount is separated on any invoices and paid to the woodland trust to use to plant woodland.

Customers receive a certificate and logo (which can be used in conjunction with the paper purchased). See our case study on Wiltshire Air Ambulance below.

About the Woodland Trust
The Woodland Trust looks after over 1,200 woodlands which are all free to access by the public.

Its aim is to double the woodland coverage of the UK which currently stands at 13% through schemes such as this one. To date paper purchases have supported the planting of over 160 hectares of native trees including Oak, Maple and Birch at several of the Woodland Trust's Carbon Removal projects that comply with the Government's Woodland Carbon Code.

Dr Nick Atkinson, a carbon specialist at The Woodland Trust said: “Working in partnership with landowners like the Ministry of Defence and with support from businesses like Ha’penny Press, is allowing us to create large areas of new native woodland, which over time will remove hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and lock it away permanently.”

Case Study - Wiltshire Air Ambulance

Wiltshire Air Ambulance had their latest edition of their Lift Off magazine printed at Ha’penny Press using the Carbon Capture Scheme.

This one project alone meant around 28 native trees would be planted in the UK which in turn would remove 1,122kg of Carbon Dioxide.

The A5 magazine features the carbon capture logo and Wiltshire Air Ambulance also receive a certificate.

Ha’penny Press would also like to wish Wiltshire Air Ambulance a happy anniversary as 2015 marks their Silver Jubilee and thank them for helping us to support the Carbon Capture programme.

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance is an amazing charity and reading this magazine just shows what great work they do in saving lives.
